There are many theatre shows that can deeply move the emotions of the viewer. A few weeks ago, I watched an amazing play at Theatre Chora, but I believe it would not have been the same without those actors. The performance was called Independent States.
Before the show started, I could make out the set, which included five offices, a makeshift kitchen, and some decorations. The story takes place sometime between 1977 and 1978 and revolves around a newspaper office, focusing on a crime that took place. However, the new secretary took it upon herself to investigate the crime. When the people at the newspaper office discovered that she wanted to reveal the truth to the world, they tried to silence her.
The play also portrays everyday office routines and employee relationships. There are scenes involving violence and rape, and the actors managed to convey all the emotions flawlessly. I also really liked the setting and the costumes. It’s a show I would watch again, and it truly deserves many congratulations.
