The International Baccalaureate Diploma program (IBDP) offers students the opportunity to cultivate a wide range of academic interests preparing them for future studies at a university abroad. The holistic approach and the modern pedagogical methods that are applied have established the IB Diploma internationally as a sufficient requirement for admission to the most prestigious universities around the world. At the same time the IB Diploma is recognized by the Greek law as being equivalent to the Greek National Certificate of Graduation (Apolytirion Lyceum).

Implementing the International Baccalaureate Diploma program at Doukas School we aim at offering to our students a comprehensive and unique learning experience. An Educational trip to Europe is organized each year by the IB department of Doukas school. The aim of this educational experience is to give our IB1 students the opportunity to visit a number of universities abroad which cover a wide range of interests.

In addition, admissions officers from a number of prestigious universities are invited in our school to introduce their institutions and programs to our students and their parents.

The above aim at familiarizing our students with various university institutions and studies in different countries, a fact which will facilitate their choice of universities to which they will apply during their second year of study in the IB.

													

																										

														
We provide our IB1 students with the opportunity to gain work experience in a field similar to the one they are planning to study. The curriculum offered covers a broad range of subjects which caters for the needs of all students whether academic, intellectual or career related.

Our teaching staff comprises of experienced teachers with a very strong academic background and expertise both in the subject they teach as well as educators. Teachers who are committed to and share the IB’s vision.

Obtaining the IB diploma is a very powerful resource in the hands of candidates when they apply to be accepted by foreign universities. The Diploma Program curriculum consists of six subject groups and the Diploma Program core.

The subject groups are:

Group 1: Language A: Literature  

               Language A: Language and Literature  

Group 2: Language acquisition

Group 3: Individuals and societies

Group 4: Sciences

Group 5: Mathematics

Group 6: The arts

The Diploma Program core includes: The Extended Essay, Theory of knowledge and CAS (Creativity-Activity-Service)

The Extended Essay gives the students the opportunity to carry out independent research

Theory of knowledge requires from students to critically approach the acquisition and the production of knowledge in various disciplines and areas of knowledge

CAS engages students in experiences related to Creativity Activity and Community Service cultivating social awareness and promoting initiative and cooperation

All subjects in the subject groups are offered at two levels: Higher Lever and Standard level.

A student to obtain the IB Diploma:

•	Must study one subject from each subject group

•	Three subjects must be studied at Higher Level and three at Standard Level

Each IB student is assigned a tutor. Tutors meet with their tutees for one double period per week. During these meetings various issues are discussed such as:



• Effective note keeping

• How studying can become more effective

• Academic integrity

• Stress management

• Time management etc.



Tutors also 



• Provide pastoral support to their tutees

• In collaboration with the subject teachers, tutors closely monitor their tutees’ academic progress 

													

																										

														
Each student has a number of study periods per week. Study periods are intended to reduce some of the workload students have to complete at home.

PRE-IB comes to answer the question ΙΒ or General Senior High School. It is a preparatory department, which operates in parallel with the 1st Grade of Senior High School and provides to the students the opportunity to get to know both educational systems at the same time.

													

																										

														
Students get in touch with the educational philosophy of the International Baccalaureate, test their abilities and decide, based on their experience from the specific program, if they wish to study in the next school year in the IB program. The Career Counseling Centre (STEP) of our school offers considerable assistance to students in order to make their decision.

													

																										

														
At the same time with the courses of the 1st grade of Senior High School, students attend 3 IGCSE courses which constitute certificates of secondary education knowledge. These courses cover two subjects common to all students (English and Mathematics) and another elective course depending on the university major they want to pursue.
